What'south an unsung makeup hero? For me, it's an oft underrated makeup morsel, a permanent collection product that scoots under the radar screen of many makeup lovers but regularly rocks my world. The long-running Unsung Heroes series features some of my favorites.

Who am I? What have y'all done with Karen? What'south happening to me? I don't know why — whether some otherworldly entity has commandeered my body — but I'k having a majorly transformational moment with eyeliner right at present, specifically brown eyeliner.

Actually, I do know why… Lately, whenever I look in a mirror, I feel similar my eyes look even more exhausted than usual, and black liner makes it worse. Ironically, I used to near exclusively vesture black liner, and I LOVED information technology.

Then I discovered dark brown MAC Coffee.

MIND Diddled.

It filled the aforementioned need that black liners filled — creating a thicker lash base, bigger-looking lids, defining the shape of my eyes — but didn't look as harsh.

Then…I just figured out that even lighter shades than brown, like taupe, can piece of work like this too. And taupe. Is. Dope.

I'm super in love with this $33 liner from the Chanel Le Stylo Yeux line called Mat Taupe, which is — surprise! — a matte taupe. Like MAC Coffee, information technology doesn't have carmine undertones, but it's slightly lighter and less grey.

When I wearable it to tight line and along my lash lines, information technology does ALL THE Good STUFF — defines my eyes, makes my lashes expect thicker, etc. — but it'due south fifty-fifty less harsh than dark brown.

For years, I pooh-poohed the thought of wearing brown liner considering I thought it was ho-hum ("Why clothing brown when yous could wear black?"), only now I get information technology. Now I know.

Non to Chrissy Teigan you again (I'm a picayune obsessed with her at the moment), but for her makeup in her Cravings cookbook, she often wears a light brown or taupe liner, and the more I look at her pics in the book, the more than I can see why Mat Taupe works so well. It softly defines eyes without creating any harsh lines.

I dunno if you lot've ever tried wearing a taupe liner or a light brownish, but I think you should, specially this one from Chanel considering IT'S GOOD.
